UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN!
October 31, 2006Wow, is all i have to say! THis book has so material so much juice. Its so interesting to read because deep down inside i have always truly wanted to learn about many different religions. The Lafferty brothers were fundamentalist mormons. They practiced the highest form of it and truly lead their lives by it. It is interesting for me to see such a different religion from what i was brought up with. My mom is a Jehovah’s Witness and that is the religion that i knew ever since i could remember, however as ive gotten older I’ve come to doubt on it. If i compare my mom’s religion to the religion the Lafferty’s practiced it is pretty different. It seems to me that the Lafferty’s religion is just like the ones the prophets of God had before the time of Jesus. Which goes along with their religion because they do believe that they are commanded by God to do certain things. The biggest example of this, is the reason of why these two Lafferty brothers killed their niece and their brother’s wife: God urged them to do it.
They believed that God made them do such a horrible crime. How could the Alpha Omega, the purest and most good being tell a man to kill two inoccent creatures? I believe that is not possible. It is an excuse that they create for themeselves in order to not deal with the guilt it carries. They also believe that they are capable of doing anything since in their religion they have the highest position. Woman and children are nothing but mere tools that these men use for their benefit. One example, is them being able to have more than one wife. Some of these men have up to 30 wives at once! Woman are nothign more or less than reproductive machines. Also, children are there to please these men, even physically. This is so disturbing thinking that little children have to be manipulated by peverted old men. Mr.Krakeur really gives me a whole new perspective of how extreme some people’s religions can be. At the same time it is all so interested. I feel like a new baby wanted to learn about eveything and touch everything in sight. This book has made me like this, which i truly like because i have become more interested in studying different types fo religions. Overall, i am truly enjoying this book and i cant put it down.
